Shanghai Petrochemical's production of high-end PVB resin masterbatch breaks foreign monopoly on automotive safety glass

Shanghai, March 6 (Xinhua) - Recently, high-end automotive grade polyvinyl butyral resin (PVB resin) masterbatch developed by Shanghai Petrochemical has officially entered industrial production, which will break the monopoly of China's high-end PVB resin manufacturing industry from foreign countries.
It is understood that PVB resin is formed by the condensation reaction of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) resin and n-butyraldehyde under acid catalysis. It is widely used in the fields of automotive safety glass, building safety glass, solar photovoltaic module packaging film, coating, primer, ink, etc., with high market demand and added value.
But currently, only a few companies internationally are able to produce high-quality PVB resin that can be used for automotive safety glass. With the development of China's automotive industry, the demand for automotive grade PVB intermediate membranes is increasing, while the production of high-quality domestic membrane raw material PVB resin is extremely low, heavily relying on foreign imports.
In order to break the monopoly of foreign markets, the Shanghai Petrochemical and Chemical Department has established a professional technical research and development team to jointly tackle key issues, continuously optimize scientific process flow, and gradually improve various technical indicators of PVB resin. After ten years of research and development experiments, high-end automotive grade PVB resin masterbatch has finally come out. The new PVB resin product produced from this masterbatch has reached the advanced level of international similar products in terms of transparency, light resistance, cold resistance, water resistance, film forming ability, and impact resistance.
